Calculating the Carbon Footprint of a Business: The case of Intelledox Pty Ltd.

Climate change has been a matter of concern of our society for a number of years, and in the recent times the increased attention on carbon emissions is forcing businesses to pay more attention to their environmental sustainability. Calculation of the carbon footprint is one of the ways to understand the emissions of the business and develop the emissions reduction strategy. While large businesses are already forced by the government and the marketplace to report on their emissions and strive to become carbon neutral, smaller businesses cannot neglect the climate change issues as well. Implementation of carbon emissions reduction strategy based on the carbon footprint can allow businesses to reduce environmental risks, become more sustainable and also reduce costs associated with energy consumption.

In this report, carbon footprint is calculated for a particular business – an Australian software company Intelledox Pty Ltd. Three main sources of emissions are included in the overall footprint. The methodology used in the research includes direct and indirect emissions of scopes 1, 2 and 3 according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Recommendations are made suggesting the possible emissions reductions and future research directions.
