Intelledox 5.1 has now been publically released and is available for general use.
This is a large upgrade which contains many improvements over version 5.0. We focused on some key limitations that our larger clients have been hitting in our current offering. The main areas are reliability, performance/scalability, and security.
Reliability
With projects now entering the 4000+ bookmark range, failure to save any item could result in data corruption and loss. A new process is now in place that will save projects as a single isolated unit.
Importing and exporting in previous versions could be problematic. This process has been improved to prevent data loss and common problems that occurred from question set ID’s changing.
Performance/scalability
Intelledox has come a long way since its beginnings and now needs to support 1000’s of users running complex projects. Editing these projects had also become a time consuming task waiting for loads and saves. Version 5.1 contains a redeveloped architecture that dramatically improves these scenarios and sets us up for many great features in the future.
Related to reliability as well, the longer something takes to complete the more likely something could happen that can cause it to fail. This was most visible on saving projects.
Security
With Intelledox now being sold into markets that take need to take security seriously we have tightened up our solution. With a security product review and new quality and improvement based development practices we have made 5.1 more enterprise ready. This has meant that some html tags that were being used in Q&A text are no longer allowed. More information will be communicated separately.
Producer UI
The Producer missed out on a new look and feel in v5.0 but that has changed in v5.1. It now sports a more modern look that matches the suite (Director, Designer). A lot of smaller usability features have also gone in to make the product more productive.
Intelledox 5.1 also contains many other great features that the Marketing and Solutions teams will communicate in the future. Releasing the software is just the first step and there are still many documents and other material to finalise including the sales package.
Upgrade Notes:
Testing has been completed but with a major architecture and database change precautions should still be taken when upgrading:
- Upgrade and confirm on testing sites before live sites are migrated
- Backup databases before upgrade
- Due to the new Producer UI, 5.1 breaks backwards compatibility with existing style sheets (themes/skins). These need to be reviewed before upgrade and modified if needed.
What’s next?
We will now enter into planning for v6 as well as releasing some follow up versions for v5.1 that will address any issues and some items that we were not able to get to with the initial release.
